Summer is almost halfway over but that doesn't mean that warmer days are over just
yet. We still have about a month and a half to go. During the winter months every runner
dreams of running in warmer weather and leaving the dreadmill behind, also known as the
treadmill.
That means that with bright and warm days ahead of us there are more opportunities to get out there. But that also means taking in the heat - whether it's early in the morning or later in the evening. There's no perfect time to really escape the summer heat, especially if you are a daytime runner, like myself. You will definitely feel the burn and I don't just mean the fat burning, I literally mean your skin!
Running during the summer means you don't have to worry about layering up. With the right essentials, you can run out the door quickly and really get more out of your run. This mom of two knows just how important it is to be able to get up and out of the house quickly - shhh.. don't wake up the kids and goo..
Something that I always look for in running gear is that
1- It has to be comfortable and stretchy enough.
2- It must be made out of moisture-wicking materials that are made especially for runners.
3- Fun colors and patterns are also a plus :)
Here are some top picks for gearing up! Here are the must-haves for great summer runs:
It’s hot out there, so the months of wearing sleeves are likely over.
Be sure to look for light-weight tops and ventilation; and, if you want features like pockets, reflective materials (if you’re out before the sun is up or at dusk), or SPF sun protection:
A- New Balance Achieve Reversible Tank
B- Merrell Emma Tank
C- Salomon Agile SS Tee
D- New Balance Achieve Reversible Tank
E- Patagonia Fore Runner Tank
Shorts are a must for summer runs, so choose based on your style and comfort preference (and of course, if you want pockets here too):
A great pair of breathable socks with padding in all the right places will keep you going:
A. Smartwool PhD Run Ultra Light Micro Sock (2 Pairs)
Available in different colors.
All the extras you might need – sports bras, headbands, etc.:
A. CW-X Xtra Support Bra III
B. Patagonia Active Mesh Bra
C. Prana Printed Double Headband
D. New Balance Performance Headband (set of 2)
E. Salomon XA Cap
D. SportHill Reflective Running Cap
And of course, you need running shoes!
Non-waterproof shoes are generally more breathable,
so that is something to keep in mind.
A few I like are:
A. ASICS Gel Nimbus 16

C. Saucony Ride 8 These offer a more stable ride and are a better fit for those runners with mild to moderate overpronation.
Now a little fun with outfit making:
Outfit 1 - Pretty in Pink :)
Outfit 2 - Have some fun with color, who said you have to match.
Outfit 3 - You can never go wrong with a white tank, let your other accessories do the talking.
The possibilities are endless, trust me I could spend hours daydreaming up running outfits.
But who said that YOU have to daydream.
